Daughter of Dorcus Maddox and Charles E. Neale; adopted by Matthew Maddox, Sr. (her grandfather) after her mother could not care for her following Charles E. Neale's death, and listed in Chapter 5 as an adopted child of the household. Her birth and death dates are noted as taken from her grave marker. In 1840 she and Edward Tracewell built the Tracewell Manor, known today as the Bickel Estates, just south of Parkersburg, West Virginia, where they raised thirteen children. Their large grave marker stands in the south-west corner of the Tracewell Cemetery, which connects to the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Wood County, West Virginia. Her birth date precedes her parents' recorded 1807 marriage as the source presents it; retained as written.
