Received a 2,000-acre land grant in Jackson County, Virginia (WV) in 1838 from Governor Allison of Virginia, believed given for his father Joseph Cheuvront's American Revolutionary War service. Built his cabin at the location of Lockhart, where the Balderson Store was later built. Married three times: his first wife Miltada Grant died in Harrison County, Virginia (WV) and is buried at Good Hope; his second wife Sarah Rose (Richards) Cheuvront and third wife Miltada (Bolin) Cheuvront are buried with him in the Maddox Cemetery. After William Oscar Maddox's death he took in and helped raise the Maddox children.
